Panthers Travel to Liberty for Brant Tolsma Invitational

LYNCHBURG, Va.—High Point University Track and Field will be competing at the Brant Tolsma Invitational in Lynchburg, Va. at Liberty University on Saturday (Feb. 6). The Panthers enter the meet after receiving three Big South Track and Field athlete of the week selection. HPU is competing for the third straight week while Mackenzie Horn and Nathalie Elliott will be seeing her fourth straight week of competition.

This will be High Point’s second out of three trips to the Liberty Indoor Track Complex during the indoor slate. Appearing on Saturday alongside the Panthers will be of course the hosting Flames of Liberty, fellow triad competitor the ACC’s Wake Forest, the A10’s VCU, The Big Sky’s Northern Colorado, and Big South opponents Campbell, Charleston Southern, and Radford.

HPU’s women pole vaulters will be led by Nathalie Elliott and Mackenzie Horn as they will be in action for the fourth straight weekend. Both Elliott and Horn posted marks of 3.95m last time out. Emma Grace, Rachel Vesper, and Sydney Gallant will also be in action for HPU in the pole vault. Adam Craig, Kolt Byers, and Cole Holliday will be competing in the pole vault for the Panther men. HPU Coach Scott Houston will be competing unattached in the pole vault after setting the facility record at Liberty two weeks ago with a mark of 5.75m (18-10.25). 

High Point’s distance runners will be represented this weekend as Franzi Jakobs and Camryn Harper will be running the 800-meter run. 

The Panthers have a full group competing in both the shot put and the weight throw. After placing first at the VMI Winter Relays last week with a mark of 11.90m (39’0.50″) in the shot-put freshman Letizia Marsico leads the Panther women into the weekend. Liana Betts will be in action in the shot put as well while Toni Lamond will be competing in the weight throw. Chris Van Niekerk and Anthony Villavicencio will be competing in the weight throw and the shot put. Tucker Conine will be competing alongside them in the shot put. Van Niekerk enters Saturday following two wins in both the weight throw and the shot put at the VMI Winter Relays. 

The male combined event athletes will be in action in multiple events this Saturday as they look to continue to their progress this season. It will be a busy day for both Stephen Binkley and Gabriel StainbackBinkley and Stainback will both be competing in the 60m dash, 200m dash, 60m hurdles, and the long jump.
